Located just to the west of Birkenhead Shopping Centre, Chatswood is a well established North Shore subdivision offering a great location and lifestyle. The area has many bush and reserve walks and tracks, yet it is also in very close proximity to the Auckland CBD. Renowned for solidly built homes the area is one of the only locations on Aucklands North Shore where most sections are "freehold" and not cross-leased or subdivided.

The homes are typically built from the mid 1970's onwards, normally of traditional materials (Block, Brick, Cedar Weatherboard etc) with the newer homes normally located on the upper end / second stage of Chatswood, toward the sought after Onetaunga Road.

Chatswood residents enjoy the local Chatswood reserves and and parks, including Kendalls Bay - this is a safe and quiet swimming spot at high tide and has a number of bush walks. There are many places to stop on the way and take in the panoramic views of the harbour. Access is through Centennial Park, off Onetaunga Road, Birkenhead.


Chatswood Reserve
Chatswood Reserve was obtained as a reserve through the subdivision of the Chelsea Estate in the early 1970s. This reserve is a remnant of the kauri/hard beech forest that once covered much of North Shore City. Although the area has had some of the larger trees extracted and the margins have been burned in the past, large kauri remain aged approximately 350 to 400 years.

Schools
Chatswood has a local primary school - Chelsea Primary School. Most Chatswood streets have access to a 'Chelsea School Walking Bus' - a great way to keep kids and parents active in the mornings! Chelsea is a Decile 10, which caters for children from Year 0 to Year 6, offering the New Zealand Curriculum. Chatswood property prices remain on average well above the typical medians in the wider Birkenhead Area. Prices range from the late $900,000's to multi-million dollar, designer homes that can be found with stunning harbour views on Onetaunga Road.
